Crecimiento is a non-profit movement dedicated to strengthening Argentina’s innovation ecosystem. Since the beginning, we have worked openly with the public sector, regulators, and the private sector, sharing research, technical knowledge, and policy input to help modernize regulation and make Argentina a better place to innovate, create and build.
This post is a direct response to a number of false statements mischaracterizing our work to support the crypto industry in Argentina. We want to share verified facts to ensure everyone has accurate information about what we do and how we do it.
False statement: Crecimiento is turning the initiative into a private company that raises funds.
Facts:
- The Crecimiento Foundation is a non-profit entity working to push forward a movement that is making Argentina the global hub for crypto.
- Some members of the Crecimiento Foundation are spinning up a separate for-profit company that may raise funds in a legally compliant way. This would be just one of many entities working in the Crecimiento movement, and does not change the mission or goals of the Crecimiento movement: bettering Argentina’s crypto community by rebuilding the economy, fueling startups, and driving sustainable tech-enabled growth.
- The Crecimiento Foundation will remain a non-profit.
False statement: Crecimiento is doing a token launch.
Facts:
- Crecimiento Foundation is a non-profit and does not plan to launch a token.
- The new company does not plan to launch a token either.
- Investors proposed a side letter with token warrant, as is common practice in the industry.
- The team is not 100% ruling out a token in the future to keep options open. Any decision regarding a token would require many months of design exploration and open discussion with the ecosystem.
False statement: Crecimiento seeks to “negotiate regulatory exceptions on behalf of the República Argentina” and “subsequently tokenize such exceptions for private economic gain”. The token is “tied to the proposed regulatory initiative”.
Facts:
- Crecimiento Foundation does not plan to launch a token, nor is it seeking any regulatory privilege or “tokenizing regulation”.
- No one is “negotiating” regulatory exceptions. Like many civic and industry organizations, we share research and policy input, regulatory proposals as public goods and collaborate with policymakers to boost Argentina’s development.
- The State has full authority over which policies move forward and remains the only decision-maker.
False statement: Crecimiento wants to be “in charge of the management of the economic zone” or receive “special treatment from the Argentine Government”.
Facts:
- Crecimiento Foundation believes that enabling the creation of special economic zones in Argentina will benefit the entire tech industry, and has collaborated with the private sector, community and public institutions on regulatory proposals.
- Ultimately, the decision of whether to enable special economic zones to exist is up to the government.
- The Crecimiento Foundation believes that Argentina’s tech community is stronger when multiple companies service these zones.
- If successful, the new company spinning up would be one of many companies contributing to special economic zones under the applicable regulations. No one intends for that to be the only company providing services to zones in general.
False statement: Crecimiento Foundation is working with Cámara Argentina de Empresas Emergentes (CAEE).
Facts:
- Crecimiento Foundation has no affiliation with CAEE. There is not much information about them or their backers as it is a newly created entity.
False statement: There are links between Crecimiento and LIBRA.
Facts:
- There are no ties between Crecimiento and LIBRA, and comparisons between the two are baseless. Crecimiento is a community-driven movement focusing on digital infrastructure and regulatory modernization.
We welcome public discussion and remain devoted to supporting the crypto community in Argentina.
